One can prevent RSl-related injuries by sitting in a proper position relative to the keyboard, mouse and monitor, and also by using ergonomically designed hardware. But, these aren't enough - Microsoft's own keyboard manuals include a health warning that states, "use of a keyboard or mouse may be linked to serious injuries or disorders." Enter Workrave - this programme can automatically tell you when to take a break / stretch, suggest exercises and even keep track the time actually spent on the keyboard and mouse. It is a GPL licensed application that runs on both Windows and Linux. The three main rest periods that it defines are micro-pauses, rest breaks and the daily limit, all these can be customized too.
